'The first movement of the sonata is in sonata form; the second movement is a theme and variations; the third movement is a jazz waltz: a homage to the American jazz pianist Bill Evans; the last movement is in Rondo form, one of the sections being a fugue. Motives from the first movement are found in the other movements.
