2 jazzy pieces based on the theme of Outer Space and composed for the intermediate bassist (Grade 6/7). Space Rock is an energetic piece full of rhythmic momentum and invention, with lively syncopations to create a work full of musical and technical challenges in the orchestral register. Space Mission was first published in Bass-in-Space, now no longer in print, and is set for Grade 7. It is a fun piece, in bass clef throughout, and with effective challenges for the developing bassist. Tony Osborne is a past master at writing exciting, interesting and idiomatic music for young bassists.

Both works were composed for DOUBLE BASS 2000, a ten year project to commission over 100 works for double bass. The project attracted many composers who helped to create a new repertoire which is now being played by teachers and students around the world.
