As the Grade 5 Music Theory exam in August 2020 was the first ABRSM online music theory exam, there are currently no past papers and only one sample paper provided by the ABRSM.

The syllabus is mostly unchanged from previous years but the format is a lot different, meaning music notation questions which were previously handwritten are now multiple choice, as well as several other changes.

This workbook has been designed to give all students taking this new style of exam extra practice with this new format.

All musical examples in Sections 1-6 have been composed by Matt Smith for this publication. The excerpts in Section 7 are works in the public domain. An answer booklet is included.
