Ymddiddan (pronounced um-thee'-than) is a virtuoso work that lives up to its title by using spacial separation of its two pianos as a powerfully dramatic element of musical form. Vividly capturing in music the sense of its three contrasting movements, 'Hedfan' (Flying), 'Galar' (Grief) and 'Igamogam' (Zig-Zag), Ymddiddan is a welcome addition to the small yet distinguished contemporary repertoire for the two-piano medium.
