An active snare drum solo followed by percussive low brass rhythms opens this powerful composition in ABA form. A cornet fanfare leads to the main March theme which is reminiscent of the engaging 'Fife and Drum' style. The contrasting Interlude features a flowing trumpet solo later joined by woodwinds, followed by a haunting flute melody that makes a gentle transition back to the first theme.
