Margaret Sanfilippo has created a very accessible and musically rewarding setting for this hauntingly beautiful melody. A musical challenge for all, the inner parts are quite simple (gr. 1) and the cellos and basses get a substantial chunk of the melodic action. Parts are all playable in first position with optional advanced fingerings given. Cellos use extended hand position. Realization of the expressive quality of the piece will require maturity of bow control and vibrato.
